Jennifer Haya

Hello!  I’m Jennifer, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and SF/Bay Area native.  I am also a wife, and a mother of twin daughters. I have been with my husband for 20+ years, married for 15 of them, and we have both realized early on that life was going to challenge our commitment to one another as we continued to grow and move through different stages.  Sometimes the challenges were our circumstances, and other times they were about the wounds we each carried into our relationship.  Our biggest take-away from our years together is that positive change in our relationship requires intentionality and work on both our parts.

I’m passionate about working with couples because I believe these relationships have a huge impact on one’s quality of life.  When you have a strong, healthy connection with your partner, you’re happier, less stressed, and better equipped to weather whatever life throws at you.  What’s even better is that this healthy relationship is a wonderful model for your children and other loved ones in your lives.  Unhealthy relationships with constant conflict and/or lack of connection impact the couple, as well as their loved ones, negatively, and can lead to increased stress, anxiety,  and/or depression.

When I first began practicing, I was counseling at-risk teens, many of whom had histories of trauma.  Several of them came from homes where healthy relationships were not modeled and one parent was absent from their daily life.  As much as I loved working with teenagers, I realized that a part of my work needed to be, in a sense, preventative by helping couples build strong and healthy connections in the home.  When you make the choice to invest in your relationship through therapy, you’re investing in the emotional wellness of your loved ones as well!

I look forward to meeting with you and learning how I can best support you and your partner.  I work hard to provide a safe, shame-free environment for my clients to explore the issues that brought them to me.  If you’re ready for that next step, I applaud your courage and I would love to be considered a possible partner in your journey!
