Barbara (Blaze) Lazarony, MA is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #127882, Registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor #10253, Transpersonal Coach, Author & Speaker.
For 20 years, Blaze held leadership positions in Fortune 500 companies, including Macy’s, Inc. While working in retail, Barbara worked with thousands of people, mentoring and leading them to grow businesses and become their best selves. In 2003, after a cancer diagnosis, she decided to leave the business world behind to discover who she was without her fancy job title and office over-looking Market Street in San Francisco, CA.
The Gift of Cancer
It was an intensely challenging time; she was diagnosed with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Depression, Anxiety, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. It took time, and eventually, Barbara was able to heal with the support of both western and eastern medicine, a great therapist and coach, and a loving life partner.
Becoming a Life Coach
Looking back, it is clear that cancer has become one of Barbara’s greatest life gifts, leading her to self-development and spiritual awakening. She became an Advanced Certified Integral Coach with The Institute for Transpersonal Psychology and a Certified Coach with the Martha Beck Organization. For eighteen-plus years, she was dedicated to the healing of others through her coaching business, where she supported others in discovering and using their unique gifts in the world.
Becoming a Marriage & Family Therapist
Supporting her clients was rewarding; however, Barbara realized that she lacked the skills and experience to address the more significant issues that were coming up in her coaching sessions with clients. This included helping clients through panic attacks, depression, anxiety, ruptured relationships, trauma, and childhood attachment issues. Therefore, she decided to attend graduate school to better support her clients.
She earned her master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Sofia University in California at fifty-six. Today, Barbara offers her couples hope and healing using therapy and coaching, so they can have a soul-based life that lights them up.
Couples & Marriage Coaching
Life is all About Relationships
Barbara strongly believes life is all about relationships. All couples today struggle in their relationships; some of the most significant issues that arise include communication, healthy boundaries, sexual intimacy, infidelity, money, values, and life transitions.
Relationships are Messy
How can the person that you fell in love with change so much?
Or did you change?
Why does your relationship feel like it’s upside down? Or about to spin apart?
Barbara will help you connect to your partner so you can feel seen and heard, teach you how to feel safe in partnership, and finally, help you address your relationship’s unique issues.
Honestly, this work is challenging for many couples, and it is so rewarding! Dr. Diane Poole Heller’s quote, “We are hurt in relationships, and we heal in relationships,” rings true.
Imagine rekindling that spark you once had…
Being supported through the tough times…
Knowing how to share your innermost thoughts and feelings…
All of this and more is possible for your relationship!
You survived your childhood, congratulations! However, if you’re like most people, you didn’t receive the appropriate level of nurturing and attachment during critical times when growing up. Some parents could not meet their kids' needs due to their own trauma, or perhaps they passed their issues to their children. Maybe you were raised in a home where abuse, depression, and mental or physical illness were present, thus contributing to some deep emotional wounds.
Coping and Adapting
In order to survive, it is common and useful as a child to develop coping skills or even personas (ways of showing up in the world) to manage your world; in psychology, we call these personas "adaptive parts" of ourselves. Parts, core wounds, attachment styles, and so much more become a source of friction and contention when you decide to partner with another person. It’s almost as if anything that can be an issue becomes one. You may come to realize that what helped you cope as a child is not the best approach in your current relationship.
An Updated Perspective
And this is where Barbara comes in. She can help you see your self and your relationship from a broader perspective, and with compassion, so you can better understand what is happening for the two of you. This will help both of you can stop shaming yourself or even blaming your partner, and then take positive action to create the relationship of your dreams.
Changing this abusive pattern is not easy work. However, Barbara knows from being with her partner for almost thirty-nine years that healing and finding safety in relationships is the most satisfying and rewarding experience possible.
Neurodiverse relationships can be challenging to form and maintain. Still, with the proper knowledge and support from an experienced practitioner like Barbara, it is possible for couples struggling to create a fulfilling life together.
Barbara has lived experience navigating neurodiverse relationships and will work with you to understand the neurological differences in your relationship and support you in discovering your unique individual needs. Barbara can show you how to have an open-hearted presence and appreciation for each other and then teach you communications skills to have the relationship that matters to you and your partner.
Childless Couples by Choice or Circumstance
Barbara has lived experience in childlessness, first by choice and ultimately by circumstance. When you can't or choose not to have kids, it is often an intensely challenging life transition. Many couples, especially women, experience the psychological and psychosomatic effects of not having children, including raised depression and anxiety levels, reduced self-esteem, blame or guilt, and even lower levels of sexual desire. You don’t have to go through this painful experience alone; she is here for you with calmness and empathy.
Barbara wants to help you navigate the relationship challenges of being out as a couple, creating your own chosen family, and address the discrimination and prejudice you may face in the world as an LGBTQIA+ couple. It’s essential to find someone who can mindfully address your relationship and the challenges that come with it and help you build a relationship with love, respect, and passion for one another. Barbara can support you with creativity and compassion every step of the way.
PTSD & Trauma Treatment
As a therapist with trauma and PTSD training, Barbara has seen how unaddressed trauma can wreak havoc on a relationship. Often the effects of the trauma can feel overwhelming for both partners and the resulting behaviors can be misinterpreted in negative ways. Barbara brings confidence and curiosity to couples struggling so they can learning to heal from PTSD and trauma and begin to restore health to their relationship.
One way she does this is using an approach called "Brainspotting" which works to identify, process, and release the sources of emotional pain stored within the body and brain. This approach helps process trauma which has impacted on the deep regions of the brain. This process can be enhanced by bilateral sound, which has an effect that is deep, direct, and containing. Barbara is certified in Level I, Level II, and Expansion Brainspotting and utilizes Moneyspotting, Parts spotting, and Couples spotting to work with her clients.
Depression & Anxiety in Relationship
Depression impacts every aspect of our lives and can affect us in many ways. It's often brought on by traumatic events or unresolved emotional trauma. Still, sometimes it just feels like a sign that you lack the willpower to solve the issues that are showing up in your relationship. The truth is, depression and anxiety are about not knowing how to deal with the emptiness inside yourself due to loss or unresolved trauma.
And that emptiness you’re feeling is spilling over to your relationship and impacting your partner too. Often the non-depressed partner can feel abandoned and helpless. And the depressed partner feels guilty about his/her struggle which can make the depression worse. Barbara can help you look at the distress you and your partner are feeling, guide you as you examine how the dynamic of the relationship may contribute to being stuck, and lastly build a shared plan for healing together.
Spirituality can be an important part of a couple's bonding, connection and shared experiences. As a Transpersonal Coach with over 18 years of experience, Barbara can help couples straddle the material world concerns and spiritual matters that are hard to navigate. You can trust her to help guide you to self-discovery and to provide a safe space where you can utilize your unique God/Self/Spirit tools to connect to Universal Oneness in your relationship.
Please know that Barbara only discusses spiritual matters if you express an interest. Spiritual matters are never forced upon any clients.
